As WWI was nearing its end for Ottoman Turkey, their defeat now guaranteed and the loss of what was left of a large empire was unfolding before Ottoman-Turkish eyes. The Turkish power elites began to focus on Turkish nationalism. Turkish nationalism had no place for non-Turkish and non-Muslim minorities residing on Turkish land.

Eventually a Turkish power elite struggle ended with a leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk (Greek perspective and Armenian perspective) winning the day. Kemal viewed the WWI loss was partly due to a lack modernization that European nations had experienced. Kemal changed his name to solely Ataturk and began a secularizing process but still a nationalist process.

Between the Turkish elite struggles through to Ataturk hegemony, Turkey’s minorities began to experience an ethnic cleansing genocide. Christians in Turkey experienced genocide. The Armenian and Assyrian Christians suffered the most. The Greek people of western Turkey had a heritage of the area that stretched to a time before the birth of Christ.

At the end of WWI and the Greco-Turkish war an exchange of Turkish Greeks for Greek Muslims are agreed upon. The sadness is that the Greeks of Turkey were brutalized in their expulsion with loss of property, assaults, rapes and in many cases death. Also a sad issue: most of the Greeks leaving Turkey occurred between 2014 and 1922 as the losing Greek army retreated from Turkey. The fleeing Greeks in this stage were the most brutalized by the Turks and numbered probably close to a million or so. After the Lausanne Treaty legalized a population exchange between Greece and Turkey, the number of Greeks leaving was much smaller:

According to official records of the Mixed Commission, the ‘Greeks’ who were transferred after 1923 numbered 189,916 and the number of Muslims expelled to Turkey was 355,635 (Ladas 1932:438–9; using the same source, however, Eddy 1931:201 states that the exchange involved ‘192,356 Greeks from Turkey and 354,647 Muslims from Greece’). While accurate figures are impossible to ascertain, it is probable that the total number of Christians who entered Greece at this time was in the region of 1.2 million, the main wave being in 1922 during the period of hostilities (Bierstadt 1925: 248–250; Eddy 1931: 251; Ladas 1932: 438–442; Pentzopoulos 1962: 96–99; Kitromilides and Alexandris 1984–5; Hirschon 1998 [1989]: 36–9). (2 The Consequences of the Lausanne Convention, AN OVERVIEW; Demographic effects [pg. 2]; By Renée Hirschon; Oxford University – School of Anthropology; 2003)

turks-slaughter-christian-greeksThe Greek perspective of the genocide can be read at “THE GREEK GENOCIDE: 1914-1923” among other places you can research. The first paragraph sums up the horrors experienced by Greeks living in Turkey in the time period:

The Greek Genocide was the systematic extermination of the Greek subjects of the Ottoman Empire before, during and after World War I (1914-1923). It was instigated by successive governments of the Ottoman Empire; the Committee of Union and Progress Party (C.U.P), and the Turkish Nationalist Movement of Mustafa Kemala Atatürk.  It included massacres, forced deportations and death marches, summary expulsions, boycotts, rape, forced conversion to Islam, conscription into labor battalions, arbitrary executions, and destruction of Christian Orthodox cultural, historical and religious monuments. According to various sources, approximately 1 million Ottoman Greeks perished during this period.

Other sources have differing stats to one degree or another. The point being is that Turkish Muslims were not pleasant toward Greeks then. Today the unpleasantness continues with illegal refugees flooding into Greece permitted largely by European Union (EU) multiculturalism. You’d think history would have taught the Greek government some lessons, right? Some observations by the essayist Fjordman (Thanks to Anders Breivik now exposed as Peder Jansen), should not only wake up the Greeks but also Americans. American Democrats are trying to force Muslim refugees down American throats in the name of Multiculturalism as if that is our “American values”. IT IS NOT! Our American values toward immigration is to welcome but to assimilate as in out of many, one American nation emerges (E PLURIBUS UNUM). NOT many diverse cultures tearing America apart!

Think of that as you read the Fjordman essay below from the Gates of Vienna.

Trojan Seahorses in Greece

Gates of Vienna

I visited Greece in the spring of 2013. Once a leader of ancient European civilization, Greece is now at the epicenter of many of the ills befalling modern European civilization. These include the financial crisis in the Eurozone and non-European mass immigration.

In Athens, the Thiseio metro station is situated close to the Temple of Hephaestus at the ancient Agora. When I visited it on several occasions, I saw immigrants urinating near the temple in broad daylight. The migrants who gathered in this area seemed to come from places such as Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan. I doubt all of them had entered legally.

Twenty-five centuries ago, Socrates lectured here. Today, Adbul Karim the illegal immigrant urinates here. This was in 2013. Things were about to get a lot worse.

Aristotle once founded biology as a scientific discipline while studying marine life on the beaches of Lesbos. More recently, Lesbos, Kos and other islands in the Aegean Sea have witnessed a flood wave of predominately Muslim immigrants entering uninvited.

The number of illegal immigrants coming to Europe was already significant in 2013. It continued growing in 2014 and exploded the following year. In 2015, more than a million people from the Islamic world and Africa forced their way into Europe, causing chaos from the Balkans to Germany. Most of the migrants were young and physically fit men of military age. Some of the hostile Muslims shouted “Allahu akbar!” while attacking the local police. Yet these aggressive intruders are still routinely labeled “refugees” by the Western mass media.

In the autumn of 2015, a single Greek island could receive thousands of boat migrants in a single day. I watched several drone videos during the peak of this influx. It looked like an invasion on a nearly industrial scale. It resembled D-Day on the beaches of Normandy in 1944, only without the tanks.

An invasion does not always require tanks or fighter jets.

Lesbos alone had to deal with tens of thousands of life jackets abandoned by the migrants.[1]

It would be tempting to call these culturally alien intruders Trojan seahorses, since many of them arrive in small boats or rubber dinghies. But perhaps that is unfair. Seahorses are gentle animals, after all. It is a documented fact that some of these Muslim asylum seekers were involved in serious crime and deadly terrorist attacks in Europe afterwards.

Kos Greece

In December 2016 and January 2017, I spent some days on the islands of Kos and Rhodes. The town of Kos has a small but worthwhile archaeological museum, situated next to a mosque dating back to Ottoman times. Compared to world-class institutions in Athens such as the Acropolis Museum or the National Archaeological Museum, it was modest. Yet it contains a fine collection of statues and other ancient artifacts. It is testimony to the incredible richness of Greek art history that even local museums contain objects of such high quality.

An Askleipion was a healing temple dedicated to Asklepios, the ancient Greek god of medicine. In addition to the ones in Thessaly and Epidaurus in mainland Greece, the Askleipion on Kos was among the greatest such establishments in the Greco-Roman world. Hippocrates of Kos, perhaps the most important Greek physician in Antiquity, probably received his medical training here. Galen, another prominent Greek physician, studied at the Askleipion at Pergamon on the west coast of Asia Minor.

The Staff of Asklepios, a serpent-entwined rod, is still used internationally as a symbol of medicine, healing and pharmacies. When visiting Kos around New Year’s, there were very few tourists on the island. I literally had the entire Askleipion all to myself. You can see from the ruins that it must have been a big and prominent temple a couple of thousand years ago.

Fjordman, Kos #1: Asklepion of Kos, where Hippocrates once studied and worked

There is a statue of Hippocrates next to the modern harbor in Kos town. It is inscribed with the Hippocratic Oath for the ethical practice of medicine. “Do no harm,” the basic message of the Hippocratic Oath, remains a guiding principle for many modern physicians.

For several days in a row I could see a small group of illegal immigrants sitting directly behind this statue. They were literally hiding in the shadow of Hippocrates. There was some symbolism to this. Muslims force their way into Europe, using European ethical ideals and humanism as a weapon to gain entry. The migrants I saw in January 2017 did not speak Arabic. Based on their looks, I would guess that some of them came from South Asia, perhaps from Pakistan or Bangladesh, while others may have come from Afghanistan or Central Asia.

Kos is located very close to the west coast of Anatolia or Asia Minor, the country we now call Turkey. Using only the naked eye, I could clearly see individual houses in Turkey. You hardly need a motorized boat to travel this short distance. A kayak would be enough. In calm weather, an able swimmer might be able to swim from Turkey to Greece and the EU.

Several other Greek islands such as Samos, Lesbos and Chios are also situated close to the Turkish coastline. All of these islands have experienced major problems with illegal immigrants. Some of these problems still remain in 2017.

Turkey has been rocked by a series of deadly terror attacks in recent years. The number of foreign tourists visiting the country has fallen sharply because of this between 2014 and 2017.

The Islamic State (ISIS) is suspected to be behind several attacks on Turkish soil. This is somewhat ironic. Accusations have earlier been made that Turkish authorities quietly aided ISIS, as long as they were fighting the Kurds.[2] 2017 was just a couple of hours old when Turkey was hit by yet another bloody attack. This time, the target was a nightclub in Istanbul.[3]

For all its substantial social and economic problems, Greece is still a safer travel destination than neighboring Turkey. You will see more veiled Muslim women in Brussels, Berlin, Stockholm or Amsterdam, not to mention London or Paris, than you see in Rhodes or Kos.

Most of the migrants who arrive in Greek islands do not want to stay there. They want to get to countries in northwestern Europe with more generous welfare states.

muslim-migrants-at-kos-2

Muslim Migrants at Kos 2

The number of migrants entering Greece from Turkey was sharply reduced in 2016 compared to 2015. However, some illegal immigrants continue to arrive in Greek islands. Boat migrants crossing the Mediterranean along the longer route, from North Africa to Italy, reached record levels in 2016.[4] Moreover, this temporary reduction in the flow of migrants into southeast Europe is entirely dependent upon the actions and policies of Turkish authorities.

The Turkish government and President Erdogan engage in open blackmail and demographic warfare against Europe. They have repeatedly stated that they want money and visa-free access to the EU for millions of Muslims in Turkey.[5] Otherwise, they will unleash the hordes from the Middle East again.

That is not the worst-case scenario. The worst-case scenario is that Turkey, an increasingly Islamic and unstable country, itself might descend into a full-blown civil war. Such an event would trigger even larger population movements towards Europe than we have seen so far.

Greeks have been at the receiving end of one of the longest campaigns of ethnic cleansing in human history. For nearly 1,400 years, Muslims have been wiping out communities of Greek-speaking Christians in the eastern Mediterranean. Greeks fought a long and bloody struggle to liberate themselves from centuries of brutal and oppressive Turkish rule.

Now, Multiculturalism, the EU and mass immigration bring Islam back. Greeks and other Europeans are expected to celebrate this. In 2017 Athens will get its first new mosque since Ottoman times.[6] This happens partly after pressure from the pro-Islamic policies of the EU.

By early 2017, the migrant situation in Greece was calmer than in 2015. Yet I sensed an underlying fear among some of the local Greeks that the troubles could restart again at any moment. The Islamic world and Africa have booming populations and dysfunctional societies.

Hundreds of millions of people in these overpopulated regions would potentially like to move to Europe. The apocalyptic scenes of 2015 may simply be a prelude to what is yet to come.

THE TOWER OF BABEL

Economics definitely is not my strong suit. Athanasios Laspopoulos sent a submission to pertaining to the economic crisis facing Greece. The nation of Greece is facing a debt problem which American Conservatives suggest is due largely to an unaffordable entitlement society maintained by the Greek government. Athanasios paints another side of that debt crisis picture. He cites government corruption and the collusion of the European and Greek wealthy engendering that corruption.

Since I have gone through the editing process of Athanasios’ submission I am also posting the Greek version he sent along as well. So for those of you who read Greek you can see if I guessed correctly to sentence structures I was certain about. The Greek portion will be after the post credits.

THE TOWER OF BABEL

By Athanasios D. Laspopoulos

Sent: 7/11/2015 4:50 AM

I remember when I was at school, many years ago, that a course was developed for the Tower of Babel and a sketch showing a huge Tower building from thousands of people. As I remember the Tower was a building by many countries and different peoples in order to reach heaven and God. This project because of the multilingualism and misunderstanding was abandoned. Was this the model on which the EU was based on?? Because as I can see in pictures and the model, the EU [and the Tower] are made almost the same. And the funny thing is that in EU there are multiple states, multiple languages and a relative disconnection between the members just as it was happening at the Tower of Babel.

Seeing the results of the EU and Greece I begin to believe that somewhere we are confused, because Germany, the great economic power of Europe, is not watching what happens in her banks and especially the Deutsche Bank one of the strongest banks in the world which is at risk to blow up a great number of the Economics of Germany and other states, but tries to restrict the lending in Greece which Greece so much needs in order to continue its development in Tourism and Industry.

Of course, from Greece we have people who instead of looking to restrict or control the NSRF (ΕΣΠΑ) [National Strategic Reference Framework: 2007 – 2013 and 2014 – 2020] and development programs, they have left to promiscuity various favorite persons of politicians to consistently skim the state and not perform any work. Those “gentlemen” naturally have the way to be covered legally, with the state completely ignoring and not wanting to do anything about them.

Certainly the same political parties, that were previously in power, cared to cover many of these illegalities. Of course today we ask an Elected Government for just a few months to find a solution to this entire mess of theft and corruption. Despite all the complaints that have been made, if the Government will not stop the famous SA covered with the name “Non Profit” Greece [Blog Editor: Please forgive my economics ignorance – I suspect a SA refers to nonprofit public limited company] will not have any growth. The only thing we can do is to point, to anyone who wants of course, [to find] where the problem is.

People working for [an] Independent Journalism Agency investigate [Blog Editor: Perhaps this is an example] by themselves in all areas, are people who have not gotten any grant or program that pays them a profit and they pay all costs by themselves funded only by their relatives because they are unemployed and basically poor. Knowing that they will not get any ‘well done’ or ‘you do your job well’ and having threats directly or indirectly, for the good of our country they continue to work day and night to find some satisfaction in their work and to improve our country’s Economy.

Of course in addition I would like to say that any project we propose finds the door closed and it falls into a bureaucracy that makes it unattractive for its continuation because anyone who wants to deal knows that there will be no Government or Bank assistance because everything is done for profit of [the] Government’s favorite people or not and various “Families” who dominate Greece [Blog Editor: This Zero Hedge article could be enlightening – “How Fascist Capitalism Functions: The Case Of Greece”].

They have come some lowers and not and suggested me to go to denounce [Blog Editor: I suspect Athanasios’ sentence meaning is lost in translation – Perhaps Athanasios means to say, “I need to be wary when investigations lead me to denounce Greek Authorities] to the Authorities all the irregularities and illegalities. This is funny because I have personally made several complaints to the authorities and they answered that the case entered the Archive. After that I’m sorry but I have no more courage when I find no right anywhere because of bureaucracy and some mindless functionaries of justice and so we lose all our trust to denounce something that is fair and right.

For example: Recently, I have been beaten and robbed and citizens who rushed to stand by me told me to call the police and report it. But the funny thing is that the same Authorities would tell me to sue VS [Blog Editor: I have no guess if “VS” is acronym or abbreviation] unknown person. I am not complaining, but I regret how we got there.

For all that I write I can bring evidence and data on the severity of the case. But I don’t want to disturb the Authorities and the State because this time they have larger problems than me.

We have a new Government, young persons, whom the people have elected and instead of standing by them to help them, we look in every way to sabotage them in order to enable again the old Government to recover their chairs and bring us more [of an] Economic destructive crisis.

Europe’s Future Hangs in the Balance

Greek Euro Crisis

The Left Wing Dems prevented Republican attempts to reform Fannie and Freddy on housing loans to people who could not keep their payments up. The result was bad paper loans turned into a banking loaning disaster that became the first domino to fall starting an economic banking disaster that went beyond the housing industry by affecting the financial stability of banks and Corporations which in  turned affected jobs which in turned screwed the American economy more. Until this very day President Barack Hussein Obama tries to lay all the blame for this on President GW Bush; however since the Leftist agenda with Fannie and Freddie was the first domino that is just a typical Dem lie.

Greece is going through an election on Sunday. If the Leftists win the election Greek policies supporting extreme entitlements could result in Greece withdrawing from the Eurozone. Such an action could send an economic ripple throughout the EU possibly causing the collapse of the Euro. A Euro collapse could have the same global effect if the Dollar collapses. Again Leftist policies might cause a global economic collapse.

Charles Hawley of Spiegel Online International writes of the economic dangers if the Greek electorate votes Left.

WWIII Focused on Israel and who Else?

Target Israel

John R. Houk

© September 16, 2011

The beginning of WWIII might be looming. The nation central to the possibility of world war is – you guessed it – Israel. That which is surprising is the powder keg surrounds two other nations other than Israel. You might think Syria and Iran might be the belligerents or perhaps Islamic terrorists like Hamas, Hezbollah and the deceptive Palestinian Authority (PA) which in turn is only the Western validation of the Islamic terrorist organization of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). The PLO is an umbrella organization of which Fatah calls the shots. Hamas is not a part of the PLO because it is corrupt and in many instances an oligarch of socialist minded Muslims relying on Arab nationalism more than Islam.

James Williams in a Personal Message to the members of United for Israel summarizes a DEBKAFile publication reporting that Turkey is threatening Israel’s Navy if it reaches beyond a 12 mile limit. Because of Turkish belligerence or perhaps in anticipation of Turkish Belligerence, Greece and Israel has signed a secret Military Pact. Greece’s involvement is based on Turkish belligerence being weighed against Greek sovereignty of small islands in the Mediterranean Sea. Things have not been nice between Turkey and the Greek people ever since the defunct Ottoman Empire began conquering Eastern Europe beginning with the fall of the Byzantine Empire in 1453 with the capture of the Capital City Constantinople. The Turks ravished Constantinople destroying Churches and making one of the world’s oldest and largest Church edifices – Hagia Sophia – into a Mosque.

Several thousand of the survivors had taken refuge in the cathedral: nobles, servants, ordinary citizens, their wives and children, priests and nuns. They locked the huge doors, prayed, and waited. {Caliph} Mahomet {II} had given the troops free quarter. They raped, of course, the nuns being the first victims, and slaughtered. At least four thousand were killed before Mahomet stopped the massacre at noon. He ordered a muezzin {one who issues the call to prayer} to climb into the pulpit of St. Sophia and dedicate the building to Allah. It has remained a mosque ever since. Fifty thousand of the inhabitants, more than half the population, were rounded up and taken away as slaves. For months afterward, slaves were the cheapest commodity in the markets of Turkey. Mahomet asked that the body of the dead emperor be brought to him. Some Turkish soldiers found it in a pile of corpses and recognized Constantine {XI} by the golden eagles embroidered on his boots. The sultan ordered his head to be cut off and placed between the horse’s legs under the equestrian bronze statue of the emperor Justinian. The head was later embalmed and sent around the chief cities of the Ottoman empire for the delectation of the citizens. Next, Mahomet ordered the Grand Duke Notaras, who had survived, be brought before him, asked him for the names and addresses of all the leading nobles, officials, and citizens, which Notaras gave him. He had them all arrested and decapitated. He sadistically bought from their owners {i.e., Muslim commanders} high-ranking prisoners who had been enslaved, for the pleasure of having them beheaded in front of him.

Here is a depiction of what happened to Churches, Monasteries and the Hagia Sophia in particular:

Bands of Ottoman soldiers began now looting. Doors were broken, private homes were looted, their tenants were massacred. Shops in the city markets were looted. Monasteries and Convents were broken in. Their tenants were killed, nuns were raped, many, to avoid dishonor, killed themselves. Killing, raping, looting, burning, enslaving, went on and on according to tradition. The troops had to satisfy themselves. The great doors of Saint Sophia were forced open, and crowds of angry soldiers came in and fell upon the unfortunate worshippers. Pillaging and killing in the holy place went on for hours. Similar was the fate of worshippers in most churches in the city. Everything that could be taken from the splendid buildings was taken by the new masters of the Imperial capital. Icons were destroyed, precious manuscripts were lost forever. Thousands of civilians were enslaved, soldiers fought over young boys and young women. Death and enslavement did not distinguish among social classes. Nobles and peasants were treated with equal ruthlessness.

According to Historian Frantzis the invaders broke the heads of those women who resisted, on the floor of the churches and they raped them dead. The famous icon of Apostole Loukas was totally destroyed. The sultan asked for the young sons of Duke Loukas Notaras. Their father refused and Mehmed was ready to take their heads. Notaras asked him to kill him after his sons so that he was sure that they were dead and not disgraced from the pervert sultan. And this is what happened. This followed ultimately in conquering the Balkan Christian nations which included the Greek speaking peoples of Greece and the Ionian western part of present day Turkey.

Now that I have expressed my disapproval of the murderous aspects of Islam that has not changed much since those medieval days, let me return to the personal message of James Williams about how Turkey may be the instrument of the beginning of WWIII at worst and at least (but perhaps even more worse) the instrument that raises the Muslim world to unite to destroy Israel.

Things Heating Up With Turkey

I thought I would send a little update on how things are going in the Middle East.
From Debka File: “Turkish frigates to confront Israeli vessels, disable their weapons”

The Erdogan government sharply ratcheted up its threat of war on Israel Monday, Sept. 12 with a report that three Turkish Navy frigates are to sail for the eastern Mediterranean “to ensure freedom of navigation and confront Israeli warships if necessary.”

As Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan was set to start a visit to Egypt, Turkish naval sources reported: “If Turkish warships encounter an Israeli military ship outside Israel’s 12-mile territorial waters, they will advance up to 100 meters from the ship and disable its weapon system.”

The threat bluntly applied to Israel’s naval enforcement of its UN-approved blockade of the Gaza Strip.

DEBKA file’s military sources report that this is more than a threat of belligerence against Israeli naval shipping; it is also an attempt to dictate the terms of its threatened military engagement at sea with Israel and arbitrarily lay down the outer limits of Israel’s territorial waters. One of its goals is to deprive   Israel’s deep sea gas wells   of naval protection.

Turkish naval sources report that the frigates assigned the mission against Israel belong to its Southern Sea Area Command.

“Israeli-Greek defense pact invoked versus Turkish naval and air movements”

Israel and Greece have invoked the mutual defense pact they signed secretly only 12 days ago in the light of heavy Turkish sea and air movements in the eastern Mediterranean.   DEBKA file ‘s sources report that this was decided in a long nocturnal phone conversation Wednesday night Sept. 14 between the Israeli and Greek prime ministers, Binyamin Netanyahu and George Papandreou, and at Israel’s expanded cabinet of eight, which was called into session over the Turkish threat to its off-shore oil and gas rigs.

The Greek Prime Minister added to the information recorded so far on Turkish fleet movements in the Aegean and Mediterranean Seas. He was particularly concerned by the observation flights suddenly increased in the past 48 hours over the Greek island of Kastelorizo in the southeast Mediterranean just two kilometers from the Turkish coast. Those flights are escorted by Turkish combat jets.

Athens fears a Turkish attack on the island, whose population is fewer than 1,000, and an attempt to damage or seize it. Israel suspects that a Turkish attack on the Greek island will be the signal for Turkish military aggression against its oil and gas platforms located in the Mediterranean between Israel and Cyprus. Papandreou said the Turks are capable of surprise attacks on additional Greek islands near the Turkish coast.
